Although summer blockbuster season is still a few months away, the lucky fans making the trek to WonderCon this weekend in Anaheim, California, will be getting a very special sneak preview of a few of the summer's most-anticipated films.
The annual comic book, sci-fi and fantasy fest kicked off Friday (March 16) and continues through the weekend with an action-packed schedule of events that include panel discussions, artist meet-and-greets, costume competitions and, of course, movie previews. MTV News will be making the trek down to the Con for a full day of preview presentations and interviews with some very special guests. Here's a quick preview of what to expect from the studios and films scheduled to appear at the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday:
20th Century Fox: "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" and "Prometheus"
Fox will debut exclusive new footage and the stars and filmmakers from two of the most buzzed-about films this year at the Con. "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is the tale of one of America's most beloved historical figures reinvented as a vampire-killer, and star Benjamin Walker, director Timur Bekmambetov and writer Seth Grahame-Smith will be on hand to discuss it. "Prometheus" marks the highly anticipated return of director Ridley Scott to his "Aliens" origins, although the extent of which we are unsure because the film is shrouded in secrecy. Sir Scott will be joined by screenwriter Damon Lindelof and stars Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron.
Universal: "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "Battleship"
First-time feature director Rupert Sanders will present a never-before-seen reel of footage from "Huntsman" alongside star Charlize Theron.
"I'm going to present a piece that I've cut specifically for WonderCon, a five-minute piece that is very different from anything else that's been seen," Sanders told MTV News recently. "We made our announcements at Comic-Con and just over a year later, it's been a quick turnaround on this project, so it's going to be nice to go back to WonderCon this time and show them an original piece, tailored specifically for them."
Fans will also get an exclusive look at new footage from "Battleship," presented by director Peter Berg, Brooklyn Decker and Alexander Skarsgard.
Sony: "The Amazing Spider-Man," "Looper," and "Resident Evil: Retribution"
Sony is set to get your Spidey sense tingling with a sneak peek at new footage from director Marc Webb's interpretation of the web slinger's origins as portrayed by Andrew Garfield. Webb will be joined by star and current "it" girl Emma Stone. Fans will also receive a first look at the intriguing sci-fi thriller "Looper," in which time travel is utilized by hired killers. Writer/director Rian Johnson will make an appearance with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays a young version of Bruce Willis' character in the film. Sony is also sending up a sneak peek of the latest installment in the "Resident Evil" franchise, "Resident Evil: Retribution," with director Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich.

Some people are surprised when they find out that Getty Images is just 17 years old -- its brand name has become such an institution in the image licensing and stock photography space that many people assume it's been around for decades longer. But starting in 1995 just at the dawn of the Internet age does make it a veteran in many ways, compared to its much younger peers in the web photo space. So we were pleased to have the chance to interview Getty Images' co-founder and CEO Jonathan Klein while he was at the South By Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, Texas this week to get his insights on how his company has grown up until this point and where it is headed in the months and years to come.Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Techcrunch/~3/31rTi7YlpXo/

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.

<P>Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off <MTVNLINK type="url" id="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK>'s 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again." </P><P> </P><P>That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on <a href="/news/articles/1610708/adam-allison-shine-on-idol-rock-night.jhtml">"American Idol" rock night</a> Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on <I>Rolling Stone</i> magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004. </P><P> </P><P></p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtvmusic.com:84215" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="dist=http://www.mtvmusic.com" allowFullScreen="true" AllowScriptAccess="always"></embed></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album <I>Led Zeppelin II.</i> Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon. </P><P> </P><P>For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997. </P><P> </P><P>Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction. </P><P> </P><P><b>Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' <a href="/news/articles/1486475/mtv-news-american-idol.jhtml">"American Idol" page</a>, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.</b></p>

In this week's 'Twilight' Tuesday, MTV News looks at signs that the two franchises may have a lot of fans in common.
By Kara Warner
Let's forget the "Twilight" versus "The Hunger Games" debate. Sure, there are a multitude of comparison stories out there right now, and there are definitely similarities between the two buzzed-about films, but the "versus" angle isn't the one we should be focusing on.
This week's " 'Twilight' Tuesday" is about making harmony and spreading goodwill, because at the end of the day, when people are talking about and spending money on YA adaptations, everyone wins. Not only that, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say a lot "Twilight" fans are also "Hunger Games" fans, and vice versa.
There has been much ado this week about the fact that the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' bestseller is tracking so well that it has a chance to beat the opening-weekend box-office haul of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1." In a nutshell, the term tracking is Hollywood industry speak for how well a studio's marketing campaigns is succeeding in creating awareness for an upcoming release. My esteemed colleague Amy Wilkinson provided a detailed analysis of "Hunger Games" tracking a while back that addressed the fact that tracking is not at all a perfect predictor of box-office success because it only measures awareness, not ticket purchases or plans to buy tickets.
"Numbers don't get much higher than this," a studio executive told The Hollywood Reporter about the unexpected level of awareness for "Games." "'[It's] tracking like a sequel, even though it isn't a sequel. It's three times higher than the first 'Twilight.' "
One reason it may be "tracking like a sequel" is that as "Twilight" fans await the final film, due out in November, they may be looking to "Hunger Games" to satiate their YA hunger in the meantime. Current tracking doesn't provide us a way to prove this theory, but regardless, it's a good jumping-off point for analysis.
And remember, if "Hunger Games" manages to top "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" in box-office sales over its first weekend, which is a sizable feat indeed, we all win.
Do you agree that "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" share a similar fanbase? Sound off in the comments section below!

There's something interesting going on over there on Fab. The design shopping site found that some of its best customers - that is, those who convert to paying customers the quickest, those who spend the most, and those who return the most often - are mobile users. The company has known about this data for some time, but wanted more in-depth analysis, so it hired software-as-a-service firm Custora to help them dive in and figure out the lifetime value of the mobile customer, specifically those using the iPad. Don't miss the 'Hunger Games' red-carpet premiere tonight at 8:30, streaming live from MTV News!

As the countdown to "The Hunger Games" grows shorter and shorter, fans have been craving as much of the tributes as they can possibly get. Luckily, we have a brand-new exclusive clip from the upcoming movie.
Soon after they are chosen for the games, the tributes from District 12, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), go through the public relations wringer, including a broadcast interview with the eccentric TV personality Caesar Flickerman, played by a very blue-haired Stanley Tucci.
In this exclusive clip, Peeta sits down to answer a few personal questions from Caesar before heading into the arena.
Similarly, the cast and crew of "The Hunger Games" will have to face the judgments of the diehard fans of the book, when the film finally comes out on March 23. MTV News' Josh Horowitz spoke with Lawrence about her reaction to seeing the finished film and how fans have treated her during the lead-up.
"It was really good. It didn't surprise me, which was good. During filming, I really liked everything what I was seeing. I liked everything that Gary was doing. Then I saw it, and it was all there," Lawrence said. "It's always hard for me watching because I think I am a horrible troll and I'll never work again. Overall, I think everybody else in the movie is fantastic, and I think the film itself is really good."
Life has changed significantly for Lawrence since scoring the highly coveted role, not for the better in some cases. "I get photographers hiding in my bushes," she said. "We're way past autographs. We're into being stalked and followed."
Other than the paparazzi, the response has been generally more positive for Lawrence. "Everyone's been really nice fortunately. I mean, the movie's not out yet, so we'll see."
MTV News goes live from the "Hunger Games" red-carpet premiere tonight! Tune into our live stream from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. ET as Josh Horowitz catches up with the stars and asks fans' burning questions!

Don't brave the wilds of the theater on March 23 without stashing these Hobnobbing-recommended necessities.

The Tributes of the 74th annual Hunger Games enter the arena in just over a week. We have it on good authority that they've been training for weeks now, but we're more concerned about you. Are you ready?
Sure, you probably bought your midnight premiere tickets eons ago, but that can't be the only provisions you've made for the bloodbath. After all, if we've learned anything from Suzanne Collins' dystopian drama, it's that preparation (and quick thinking) can be the difference between survival and having your face mauled by a Muttation. And though your local multiplex probably isn't hiding a hive of tracker jackers under your seat, the wilds of a midnight premiere boast their own perils. Just in case you're not stockpiled with the proper rations, this week's Hobnobbing is dedicated to getting you Games ready. Here's your midnight premiere checklist:
Storage
Before you even think of stepping foot in the cineplex, you need a sturdy, lightweight bag to store your provisions. Take a cue from Katniss, and keep your stuff in a spiffy orange backpack. We like The North Face's Borealis Backpack, a sleek model with two big pockets, allowing for quick stashing and dashing if necessary. (Not to mention it will probably stand up to an unexpected fire assault better than that old plastic grocery bag that's hiding under your bed.)
Edibles
You'll need to keep up your strength while staking your claim on a primo theater seat, so calorie-loading is key. But there's no reason your foodstuffs can't be fun too. New York bakery Eleni's boasts a Down With the Capitol gift box full of "Games"-themed cookies (dibs on Gale!). Or you can bake up your own (just like Peeta!) using a recipe from Fictional Food. Because, really, there's no need to be hungry in your arena.
Shelter
Whether you're stuck shivering outside the theater or in an aggressively air-conditioned lobby, you'll want to keep yourself warm and cozy. We're pretty partial to this bright pink Team Peeta sweatshirt we found on Etsy. Plus, it can double as a pillow if you want to take a quick Kat nap.
Entertainment
OK, reality check: It is likely — despite the high-stress, high-anxiety conditions of the midnight premiere — that you might get, well, a little bored. Temper a case of the dulls (and psych yourself up even more!) by popping in your ear buds and jamming to "The Hunger Games" soundtrack, which drops March 20. Taylor Swift will thank you.
Inspiration
If all else fails, take encouragement from loyal District 12 stylist Cinna: "I'm not allowed to bet, but if I could, my money would be on you."
What will you be packing in your "Hunger Games" go bag? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me @amymwilk with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!
